Ron on the Road: Seattle Church Planters

Mike Kelly, Ron, John Haralson, and Michael Subracko | Seattle | SRC Church Planting

Mike Kelly, Ron, John Haralson, and Michael Subracko

On Saturday morning, Miriam and I met with three pastors that have some incredible ministry going on in Seattle.

Green Lake Presbyterian Church

Mike Kelly is the senior pastor of Green Lake Presbyterian Church, he also is directing a movement to plant more churches in the northwest. Mike and his team serve a multi-site ministry called CrossPoint Churches. Think of CrossPoint as a family of churches in missional partnership to cross barriers that divide the Seattle area–and the world–and more together than any single congregation could imagine.

Grace Seattle

John Haralson and Michael Subracko serve at Grace Seattle, which is a church that Spanish River was instrumental in helping to plant several years ago. John has done a wonderful job as the senior pastor. The church has gone through some difficult leadership challenges, and John has stepped in and has righted the ship and Grace Seattle is growing and serving the community in outstanding ways.  Michael who serves as the associate minister at Grace Seattle also served in the mission field alongside Tom Hudson in Portugal. Grace Seattle is also just recently planted a church in West Seattle. Andy Pelander is the church planter at All Souls Church.

Acts 29 Network

Ron Tobias and Scott Thomas | SRC Church Planting

Scott Thomas of Acts 29

We later met with Scott Thomas, who is the President of Acts 29. Scott has led this ministry for several years which was founded by David Nicholas and Mark Driscoll. Acts 29 is a church planting ministry that has played a role in hundreds of church plants around the world. SRC has partnered with Acts 29 on several of these church plants. Scott just recently wrote a book called “Gospel Coach” and his is very busy teaching seminars around the country on this subject.

Please keep all these men in your prayers as they serve the Lord in Seattle.

Ricardo Agreste: Gospel Unity

The main idea:

God has called his family to be unified in the gospel, and to work together to fulfill the Great Commission and expand His Kingdom. Often times, however, when pride, or cultural snobbery fog our thinking, we can begin to assume that we are the experts on our particular circumstances, culture, and context. We end up prohibiting our ability to be effective, efficient, and God honoring. “We always think our vision, is the only right vision.” says Ricardo. We neglect to lean on our brothers from different backgrounds, countries, and cultures to give us wisdom and insights. In this session Brazilian church planting movement leader Pastor Ricardo Agreste from Sao Paulo, Brazil sheds light on how we as the family of God, and specifically church planters, should seek to partner with our international brothers in humility to start global church planting movements.

Why you should listen to him:

Pastor Ricardo Agreste is a Brazilian church planting movement leader and President of Acts 17 Connection. He is the lead pastor of Chacara Primavera in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and spearheads CTPI, a church planter assessment and training program. Pastor Ricardo is a member of the Spanish River Church Planting family, and is our primary partner in our over 40 church plants across the Brazilian landscape.

Chan Kilgore: Gospel Motivation

The main idea:

In his first message “Gospel Message: From Transaction to Transformation,” Chan Kilgore deconstructs what the gospel is, what it isn’t, and how it should have an impact on all areas of our life. In this second message, “Gospel Motivation: Determining What Drives Us,” Chan constructs a gospel motivation founded on Jesus’ beatitudes from Matthew 5. Chan helps church planters think through how to create a gospel revolution in their hearts and of their people.

Why you should listen to him:

Chan Kilgore is the lead pastor and church planter of CrossPointe Church in Orlando, FL and has been a member of the Spanish River church planting family for nearly a decade. Chan has led CrossPointe to become one church meeting as three congregations with locations in Lake Nona (Chan Kilgore), Waterford Lakes (Jared Davis), and Winter Park (Jamie Hart). Chan hosts the Gospel Cohort each month with church planters and ministry leaders from central and northern Florida. Chan is also the secretary/treasurer of the Acts 29 Network.

Chan Kilgore: Gospel Message

The main idea:

Spanish River kicked off the annual 2011 Church Planters Conference with special guest and Network member, Chan Kilgore. In his talk, “Gospel Message: From Transaction to Transformation,” Chan unpacks what the gospel is and how it should inform and transform every aspect of a church planter’s life. Chan presents useful diagrams, pastoral instruction, and practical insights to empower church planters to be biblically grounded and gospel driven in their marriage, sexuality, parenting, finances, and more.
